Some weeks go so fast that I barely have time to stop and take stock, but thanks to my camera in my back pocket the memories are a little easier to hold on to. ♥ It’s been a week of ups and downs, especially with a school girl not so happy – but happier after opening…

My daughter is unhappy at school with a strict teacher
What to do? Ever since she returned to school after the long summer holiday she’s been different. Last year she couldn’t wait to get to new school each day (she started half-way through the year, for term 3 and 4). She would be the first up in the house. She’d make her breakfast and be…
Things I’m Loving: Nature abound
It has been a week of celebrating the beauty of nature. ♥ Loved learning of New Zealand’s native trees and the amazing variety of different trees the world over. ♥ Loved identifying different tree species in our garden at home and in Wellington’s Botanical Garden with Sophie and Alice. Sophie worked so enthusiastically and wrote…
Flying into February
A visitor to my garden on Monday marked the start of a new school year and the end of the summer holidays. I have a special affection for Monarch butterflies. To me they are spiritual guardians, carrying messages from loved ones. After Charlotte set off happily to school on Monday the butterfly soared into the…
Our Boxing Day girl turns 6!
Our live-wire Sophie turned 6 on Boxing Day and we celebrated in sunshine with Grandma and Granddad. She waited patiently for all the house to wake, before opening her presents. She waited an hour and a half. Impressive! She was bestowed with lovely gifts including Lego, a fairy field-book and Barbie dolls. A cake was…
LOVING that school’s out for summer!
The long summer break is before us with hopefully lots of beach days and sunshine. We’ve had a busy last week or so, what with Charlotte’s wonderful dance show taking up all last weekend, a carol service and a prize giving evening at the Town Hall on Thursday evening. There have been Birthday parties galore…
Things I’m Loving in between the anxiety
It’s been a tough week seeing my Sophie suffering so much with anxiety at going to school. Tears before bed. Sobbing as I help her into her uniform and into the car. She’s only been two days this week. She does have a good day, when she’s there, but has great difficulty leaving the comfort…
Expressions on a Wednesday in a Tutu!
We’re half way through term four and on a roll to Christmas, with all the dance shows, carol singing and preparations. Sophie is really settling in to her new school and coming home every day with a smile and a pile of reading. She brings home wonderful books and often has the whole family acting…
Expressions on a Wednesday at the Strawberry Fair
We went to the Strawberry Fair, where red balloons floated in the air. We feasted on strawberries red, drizzled with cream. And watched the QM College girls sing like a dream. Alice danced, and clapped, along to the songs – dressed in a vision of strawberry red, with a Christmas tree, towering, over her head….
A new start is rarely all smooth going
This week has been one of change and adjustment. Sophie joined Charlotte at school. I stepped up a gear with morning school preparations and post school fall out. Alice adapted to moving at her own pace with a little more ‘down time’ during the day. Charlotte enthusiastically embraced the start of term 4 whilst supporting…
I hope she’s not thinking about me as much as I am about her
My beautiful, free spirited, energetic, bright young Sophie. I love you with all my heart, as I do Charlotte and Alice. You probably won’t understand the depth of my love for you until you are much, much older. But a parent will do anything for their child’s happiness. When you started school at the beginning…
Flying the flag Friday as RWC 2011 kicks off!
Wellington is adrift with flags (it always is…), but never before has it seen SO MANY flags. There is Rugby World Cup bunting hanging from every shop and cafe (in fact the RWC bunting has now sold out, so enthusiastically have Kiwis been hanging it!), giant flags fly along every street and shop windows are…
Things We’re Loving…
⤠Loving the satisfaction of home baking. I was craving a biscuit, but didn’t have any to hand. I did have a couple of cups of flour, butter, an egg, sugar and a dash of vanilla essence… half an hour later… yummy biscuits with my cuppa! And once the baking bug has bitten, the hot…
The Birth of a New Term!
A new term has started. We’re half way through the academic year here in New Zealand. The alarm clock was set for 7am on Monday morning. The petrol tank in the car was filled. The name labels ironed, stitched and stuck on boxes, shoes, bags and clothes. The mileage on the clock has already increased….
