Auckland in 7 days – June 2010
We travelled up to Auckland, from our home in Wellington, for a week of fun. We chose to go out of season and mid-term, so we wouldn’t have to pay as much for accommodation or a rental car. There are plenty of attractions for all weathers in Auckland and even when it rains the temperature in Auckland rarely gets into single figures during the day.
We stayed in Brown’s Bay, which was a lovely place to base ourselves, with cafes, a beach and children’s playground all within walking distance.
Day 1 – We were greeted with a rainbow on our arrival in Auckland. After picking up our rental car we headed to Butterfly Creek, only minutes from the airport, before heading to our holiday home in Brown’s Bay.
Day 2 – We visited Kelly Tarltons, where we learned about penguins, stingrays, sharks and more! Fabulous fun.
Day 3 – Auckland Zoo
Day 4 – Snow Planet – when it rains in Auckland there are plenty of indoor attractions where the weather doesn’t influence the fun. We had a fabulous day at Snow Planet, where the girls had a go at skiing and tobogganing.
Day 5 – We went into central Auckland on a fine day to enjoy the amazing views from the Sky Tower. Afterwards we visited Auckland Museum, located in the beautiful Botanical Gardens.
Day 6 – Crystals, a farm and a roller-coaster! Lots of fun for a few hours West of Auckland.
Day 7 – We enjoyed a sail on the harbour and a fascinating visit to the maritime museum. New Zealand’s early settlers were incredibly skilled sailors and navigators. This museum holds an amazing collection of artefacts. We whiled away a good couple of hours here.
