Last week of the school hols

This past week has been one of mostly simple pleasures at home. The girls have played together better than ever and taken over every corner of the house to play in (including the garage – with the car now out on the driveway!).

There was some beautiful weather in between the showers and we spent a memorable few hours at Lyall Bay beach, with all of us taking a mid-winter dip (up to our knees!).

We had a few friends round, to break up the days, but other than that, a visit to the library, the Splash Pool and the Recreation Centre in Kilbirnie (where Charli tried roller-skating for the first time and loved it!) we’ve been mostly at home. We briefly visited the Botanical Gardens and the girls made wishes in the pond (Sophie for a horse and Charli wished to see fairies!). They fed the ducks, gazed and the fish and played hide-and-seek – all good, simple fun.

The winter colds continue to affect us. Charli came down with a temperature mid-week and Sophie and I seem to be coming down with it now. We had such an incredible summer that this winter seems much harder than it really is at times. We’ve certainly had our fair share of viruses!

Dan’s soccer has been cancelled week upon week due to rain every Saturday! He did, finally, get a game in this Saturday – but finished it caked in mud! As we dropped him off we laughed at the zombie like figures on the pitches – literally covered from head to foot in mud, with not a bare inch of skin showing or team colours!

It’s now Sunday evening and term 3 commences tomorrow. Charli enjoyed her first week ‘taster’ of school before the school holidays, but she was so tired and emotional at pick-up time. I know we’ll adjust; but it’s going to be tough on all of us initially. Charli, Sophie and I are such a close little unit during the week and we miss each other so much when we’re not together. This last week of the school holidays has been really wonderful. It’s been especially nice to have the chance to meet up with Dan for ‘Yum Cha’ (or ‘Yum Chum’ as the girls like to call it!); with the girls eating with their prized chop-sticks – joined at the top with animal outlines to make for easier dining – purple for Charli – yellow for Sophie!).

Off to bed with a cup of ‘Lem-sip’ now and hoping this first week of term 3 is a good one for all of us!
