After my neighbour had returned from taking Charlotte out this afternoon she stopped by to say how delightful Charlotte was (sigh of relief from me!). She also said how Charlotte had mentioned a fairy sitting next to her in the car. The fairy was called Rosebud and was purple. Charlotte later explained that Rosebud can change her dress to whatever your favourite colour is!
Apparently Charlotte was a little fairy herself – helping my neighbour take her father to the doctor for his flu jab (Charlotte told the nurse and my neighbour’s father that, ‘When I’m old I’ll get my flu jab too.’). They then picked up my neighbour’s son from school and went to watch him coach a netball team. He was so excited to see Charlotte meet him at school and showed her off to all his school friends – pretending she was his little cousin (well, for the moment in life they might as well be! So cute!). They all asked if they could give her a cuddle and Charlotte apparently delighted in all the attention.
More on the fairies theme… Charlotte has taken to decorating our garden with anything sparkling (tinfoil, stickers, sparkle paint) to attract fairies. She also places little pebble circles for them to dance in. She tells me that when she goes to the top of the garden they all come out to see her – but sadly, ‘Only children can really see them Mummy.’.
Sophie with our fairy house in the background and mushroom (complete with pumice stone circle and hidden gems!); as well as our little wishing well – decorated by Charlotte:
Though I’ve never really ‘seen’ one I’m sure they exist – those little rainbows of light that catch the corner of my eye; butterflies too beautiful to be of any earthly body; dewdrops that sparkle so brightly they could engulf a person with their magic…
A beautiful book which caught my eye recently is ‘Fairies 101’ by Doreen Virtue, PH.D. It’s a book which is stunningly illustrated and gives an introduction to connecting, working and healing with the fairies and other elementals.
One aspect of parenting that is such a delight to me is having a valid excuse to duck back into my childhood for a brief respite from the daily chores!
